Running out of Google storage often means choosing between deleting files and adding another subscription. Developer Yair Levin has built Google Storage Cleaner to offer another option: clear out forgotten clutter and move larger files into spare accounts.

The idea came from a recurring family problem. Levin regularly helped his mother-in-law free up space in her inbox, sorting through messages one by one. His Chrome extension is designed to make that process easier across Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos.

The tool identifies potential candidates for deletion, including old promotional emails and other accumulated material. Its default filters protect starred and important messages, alongside emails containing words such as “receipt”, “invoice” and “contract”. Users can add their own protected terms and senders.

Its more distinctive feature addresses files people want to keep. The extension offers to transfer selected items to secondary Google accounts and share access back to the main account, freeing space there once the originals are removed.

With support for three additional accounts, each with a 15GB free allowance, the service can help users manage up to 60GB across four accounts. That does not increase the storage limit of any individual account; it distributes files between them.

Levin says the extension handles processing locally in the browser without sending personal account data to its own servers. The service also describes transfer checks and a 30-day undo option, although important files should still be backed up before any migration or deletion.

Scanning is free, as are three basic cleanup functions. According to the product description, a one-off $5 payment unlocks the full feature set for one primary account, including transfers between accounts.

The proposition is straightforward: make better use of existing storage before paying for more. For people willing to manage several accounts, that could offer a practical alternative to another monthly bill.
