GTA 6 crashed the Internet, before anyone’s even played it

GTA 6 crashed the Internet, before anyone’s even played it

Rockstar dropped 27 minutes of extended gameplay footage this week.

The footage is the deepest look yet at Vice City and the new Leonida state, following protagonists Lucia and Jason through driving sequences, combat, a basketball minigame, and, in a first for the franchise, an optional romance storyline players can pursue between the two leads. It’s the most gameplay Rockstar has shown in a single sitting since the project was announced.

Demand did the rest of the talking. The stream buckled under viewership, with both Twitch and Netflix reporting outages during the premiere window. For a 27-minute video, that’s a staggering signal of pent-up demand, and a reminder that no platform, however big, is fully braced for a Rockstar-sized audience showing up at once.

The reveal also does damage control. Rockstar has spent months fighting leaked gameplay footage circulating online, footage the studio called “heartbreaking,” warning that early leaks would “dull the experience it had planned.” Putting out a controlled, polished 27-minute cut, rather than letting fragments define the narrative, was as much about reclaiming the story as it was about hyping the game.

With GTA 6 now locked for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, this trailer was Rockstar’s last major swing before launch marketing shifts into pure countdown mode. Judging by the server strain alone, the appetite is already there — Rockstar just needed to prove the game could live up to it.
