Three years after Elon Musk replaced Twitter’s blue bird with X, a new platform is betting that people still miss what the old brand represented.

Twitter.now, created by a group called Operation Bluebird, revives much of Twitter’s familiar visual language: the bright blue color, a bird-shaped logo and even a reference to the old “fail whale” error page. The company says it is not affiliated with X Corp., but the resemblance is intentional enough to have already triggered a legal fight.

Operation Bluebird argues that X abandoned the Twitter brand when Musk renamed the platform. X says it still owns the Twitter and Tweet trademarks and has accused the group of trying to take control of one of the internet’s most recognizable identities.

The platform itself mixes familiar features such as handles, replies and retweets with newer ideas. Its automated fact-checking tool, Vera, uses Google’s Gemini AI, while its published “Birdhouse Constitution” promises consistent moderation and argues that freedom of speech does not automatically mean freedom of reach.

The timing may work in its favor. X has struggled to regain momentum as rivals such as Threads continue to grow, suggesting there is still demand for a fast, text-first public conversation. Twitter.now is betting that nostalgia can help it compete. The larger question is whether users miss Twitter enough to follow the blue bird somewhere new.
